How it All Started

I have a confession to make. I’m addicted to baking. (I know! Crazy, right?!?!) I am a 100% self-taught baker with a passion fueled by food that looks as great as it tastes. I have always loved making fresh baked goods for my family and friends – often WAY too much because I was always experimenting with my own recipes and working to perfect them. Couple dozen chocolate chip cookies, peanut butter cookies, oatmeal-raisin cookies, some cupcakes, a cake, banana bread, few loaves of french bread, a big ol’ pot of soup…. LOTS and LOTS of food often made in ONE day. I certainly have a good grasp for Quality & Quantity.

It all started when I was a young girl. I used to flip through my Mom’s cookbooks and magazines dreaming of all the things I wanted to make. I would rummage through the cupboards trying to find the ingredients for ANY recipe that we had everything for.

At the age of 8, I created my very first recipe written on a scrap of paper. Here it is, straight from my baby book. (Thankfully I was the oldest child so I had a well-documented baby book…My Mommy followers will understand this one!)
The first treat I ever baked was sugar cookies. I failed a few times but I became obsessed with perfecting the recipe and refused to stop until I had it just right. Many “clean the kitchen up after yourself”, lectures later, I had in fact perfected the sugar cookie at the age of 10. My aunt reminisced recently about a little tantrum I had one day when my mom forgot to buy some butter while she was at the grocery store so I could make cookies. Don’t for one minute think I was some spoiled little brat that got anything she wanted – I was put in my place and sent promptly to my room…. Fast forward to today: I own and operate Crumbs Cakery Elk Valley in Sparwood, BC. I share my life with the most beautiful, supportive, and loving human being I have ever met and have 4 amazing children – 3 boys and 1 girl. When I am not making cakes or hanging out with my family, I am a Paramedic for BC Ambulance Service. I have a college background in Business Administration with a major in Accounting, an Applied Computer Certificate and a Network Support Technician Diploma. My other hobbies include reading, writing, swimming, running, hiking, mountain biking and camping.

Update: Crumbs Cakery Elk Valley became a Fernie restaurant and storefront in May 2015 and converted to Crumbs Cakery & Cafe.
